BALANCED LIVING

with Influencer Tara Sowlaty Lehrer

Tara Sowlaty Lehrer wears many different hats. As a trained natural foods chef, holistic nutritionist, certified yoga teacher, and a blogger, she’s always working to find balance. Learn how she juggles it all with help from her favorite go-to self-care practices, like using natural Burt’s Bees® Renewal line skincare products, exploring different forms of meditation, and sharing healthy recipes.

Healthy Habits

After being diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as a teenager, Tara was determined to understand how food could affect her overall health and healing. She trained as a natural foods chef in New York City, which jumpstarted her journey sharing nutrient-rich recipes on her website How You Glow—but food is just one facet of her holistic lifestyle.

“To me, holistic living means I’m paying attention to all aspects of my life, including food, exercise, self-care, and relationships,” Tara says. Her secret to maintaining this balance? Practicing daily meditation.

Meaningful Mediation

“I’m a sensitive person and when I’m not in a good mental state, I don’t feel like I can function as well,” she explains. “It’s important for me to get my mind right before I do anything.” For her, that means meditating for short periods throughout the day. “I’m not militant about it because I think it’s counterintuitive to force yourself to meditate,” she says.

She doesn’t believe there’s a right—or wrong—way to meditate. “I like to close my eyes and meditate for five minutes when I wake up,” she says. “Making lists, sending gratitude to people I love, and cooking also makes me feel very centered.” She also relies on yoga and music to help her find peace. “Self-care is about taking time to do the things that bring me joy,” she says.

Plant-Powered Skincare

“I’m obsessed with my skincare routine. It’s my daily ritual and I never miss it,” she explains. When it comes to the products she’s putting on her skin, she prefers options that are made with plant-based alternatives. Her daily regimen features natural products made with bakuchiol, a retinol alternative, from the Burt’s Bees® Renewal line.

“I use the Refining Cleanser because it’s not too harsh or drying,” she says. “I follow it with the Intensive Firming Serum and lock that in with the Firming Moisturizing Cream.” She finishes by patting the Firming Eye Cream into the skin under her eyes (she also uses this gentle product on the lines around her mouth).

Just like cooking with natural, healthy ingredients, using natural skincare products is another way Tara maintains her balanced, holistic lifestyle. “I love when brands use natural alternatives that work just as well as their chemical counterparts,” she says.
